The United Kingdom joined several other European countries in putting limits on the use of puberty blockers and hormones for transgender patients under age 18. UK authorities placed an indefinite ban on these treatments late last year, following a landmark report on gender identity services in the UK that pointed out a lack of data and evidence on the long-term outcomes for patients prescribed these drugs.

Here & Now's Scott Tong talks about how this ban is affecting gender-affirming care for children and adolescents in the UK with Hannah Barnes, writer and editor at The New Statesman and author of the book “Time to Think: The Inside Story of the Collapse of the World’s Largest Gender Service for Children.”

This segment aired on March 20, 2025.
