For people who cook, eat or take an interest in history, geography, sociology, literature or anthropology, America’s Test Kitchen's new cookbook "When Southern Women Cook" will not disappoint.

The volume is an homage to the American South and Southern women — Black and white, Indigenous and immigrant —  and the food that empowered them to become activists, leaders and role models, shaping the region’s history and economy.

The book is the brainchild of editor in chief of Cook’s Country, Toni Tipton-Martin, and Morgan Bolling, executive editor of content for Cook’s Country. The two join host Robin Young to talk about the food, writers and recipes featured in their new cookbook.

This segment aired on April 7, 2025.
