What a pause in weather translation services means for non-English speakers

It may be more difficult for people to get forecasts and warnings during extreme weather events if they don’t speak English. That’s because the National Weather Service has put on hold its use of an automated language translation tool until further notice due to a contract lapse.

Here & Now’s Robin Young learns about the impacts of the pause with someone who studies how to translate weather information. Joseph Trujillo-Falcón is a researcher at the University of Illinois Department of Climate, Meteorology, and Atmospheric Sciences.
