Sudanese folktales keep culture alive amidst conflict

Two years ago Tuesday, conflict erupted in Sudan. The civil war between Sudan’s military and paramilitary forces, known as Rapid Support Forces, has decimated communities and left millions without shelter.
Amid the violence, many Sudanese are trying to keep their culture, history and art alive. That's what Sudanese American journalist Hana Baba is doing with her new podcast, "Folktales from Sudan."
Baba — also host of the show "Crosscurrent" at San Francisco NPR station KALW — joins host Scott Tong to share the stories passed down from generation to generation and why it is so important to share them now.

This segment aired on April 15, 2025.
