How cuts to the FDA could impact food safety
Every year, an estimated 128,000 Americans are hospitalized from foodborne illnesses. The Food and Drug Administration is responsible for ensuring a safe food supply for Americans. But cuts at the FDA have raised questions about the agency's ability to maintain standards of inspection and regulation.
Host Deepa Fernandes speaks with Suzy Khimm, a national reporter for NBC News covering federal agencies and the impact of policy on ordinary people. She recently reported a story about an E. coli outbreak that the FDA chose not to publicize.
