WBUR with media consortium to host final 2021 Boston mayoral debate

A media and educational consortium that includes WBUR, WCVB Channel 5, The Boston Globe and the University of Massachusetts Boston's McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies will host a live, one-hour Boston mayoral debate on Monday, Oct 25 from 7-8 p.m.

The candidates, Councilors Annissa Essaibi George and Michelle Wu, will go head-to-head as they appeal to voters in the final mayoral debate leading up to the November 2 election. “Commitment 2021: Boston’s Final Mayoral Debate” will be moderated by WCVB anchor and On The Record host Ed Harding. Panelists will include WBUR’s Tiziana Dearing, WCVB On The Record host Janet Wu, and The Boston Globe’s Adrian Walker.

The debate will adhere to strict social distancing guidelines for the moderator, panelists, and candidates, and will be televised from WCVB’s studio in Needham.

This final debate will be broadcast live on WCVB and WBUR, and live-streamed on WBUR.orgWCVB.com, UMB.edu, Globe.com and Boston.com.

Ground rules for media coverage of the debate are as follows:

  • Outside media will not be permitted at WCVB Channel 5 studios in Needham due to pandemic precautions. There will not be on-site distribution of the broadcast. Distribution coordinates will be provided.
  • Media outlets can use excerpts totaling three minutes (3:00) of video and/or audio from the broadcast. A visual courtesy, “WCVB Channel 5,” MUST be provided.
  • A pool still photographer from the Boston Globe will provide debate images by request and to the AP. If you would like access to these photos, please send the email address of where photos should be sent to bostonglobephoto@gmail.com. Questions can also be directed to that email address.
