Former Staff

Chinanu Okoli is an education reporting fellow at WBUR. Passionate about telling the stories that matter, Okoli hopes to amplify underserved voices and help build trust in local news.

Okoli serves as co-programming director at WTBU, Boston University’s student-run radio station. It’s there that he created Melanin Matters, a Black news-talk show and the only Black news outlet on campus. His reporting on a Haitian solidarity rally earned him an Intercollegiate Broadcasting System award nomination. Okoli also served as Campus News Editor at WTBU News, where he led exclusive student government election coverage and bolstered the station’s independent reporting.

Okoli previously worked at GBH News as the News Engagement Intern, where he helped strengthen reporter-audience relationships in several Boston neighborhoods and contributed to Politics IRL, the station’s digital series focused on Gen-Z voters.

He currently freelances for Cambridge Day and writes for the Daily Free Press.

Okoli will graduate with his journalism degree from Boston University in May 2025.
