Mass. Attorney Who Represented Guantanamo Inmates Discusses Obama's Plans To Close Prison
ResumePresident Obama has 10 months to fulfill a campaign promise he made eight years ago to close the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba.
But, as has become clear in those eight years, it will not be easy. And the fate of the 91 prisoners who remain at Guantanamo is unclear.
Four of the Guantanamo Bay prisoners who made it off the island of Cuba were represented by Boston Attorney Michael Mone. A 33-year-old Syrian man was the last prisoner represented by Mone to win release from the prison. He was transferred to Uruguay two years ago, after more than a decade at Guantanamo.
Mone joined Morning Edition to talk about his client, the prisoners that remain at Guantanamo and what may be preventing the transfer of some of those detained.
This segment aired on February 24, 2016.
