Structured Music

Music and mathematics have been linked for thousands of years — as far back as the philosopher Pythagoras in ancient Greece. But a paper this week in the journal Science takes a new tack, using modern geometry to explain the structure of Western music. It's the first music theory paper in the journal's 127-year history.
