Deval Patrick was the first official candidate in the Massachusetts race for governor. He announced his run in April last year and is now the front-runner, less than two weeks before the general election.
This is Patrick's first campaign for political office. He's worked in government before, as the top civil rights attorney in the Clinton administration, and his resume also includes corporate experience, as general counsel at Texaco and Coca Cola.
Patrick was born and raised in Chicago. He came to the Boston area with a scholarship to Milton Academy. He then went on to Harvard, from where he graduated with a law degree.
As we continue our series profiling the candidates in the gubernatorial race, WBUR's Fred Thys talks to Deval Patrick and people in his life.
