SJC Rejects LaGuer Bid
The state Supreme Judicial Court has rejected another bid for a new trial from convicted rapist Benjamin LaGuer.
The justices upheld a lower court ruling by rejecting LaGuer's claim that a state police fingerprint report, that was not turned over during his trial, could have proved his innocence.
LaGuer is serving life in prison for the rape of a Leominster woman. This was his eighth appeal for a new trial.
LaGuer came back into the statewide spotlight during last year's gubernatorial race when candidate Kerry Healy criticized opponent Deval Patrick for writing to a state parole board in support of Laguer.
A spokesman for Governor Deval Patrick says the ruling means justice has been served.
