Jobs Fair for Cape Summer

As the weather turns cool and crisp and the forecast calls for a wet weekend, summer feels far away. But for Cape Cod businesses, the hot season seems to be coming all too soon.

Many are scrambling to hire for thousands of positions that used to be filled by foreign guest workers. Since the federal government changed its visa rules, those workers can no longer get visas to work the season.

So, the state government and the Cape's Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to hold a couple of recruitment fairs. Dozens of people attended one yesterday in Westport, between New Bedford and Fall River. WBUR's Bianca Vazquez Toness was there and has this report.

Audio for this story will be available on WBUR's web site later today.

This program aired on April 11, 2008. The audio for this program is not available.
