Fatal "T" Crash in Newton
The train operator trapped after a collision near Boston during the evening rush hour has died.
MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo says 24-year-old Terrese Edmonds died as firefighters struggled to rescue her from the wreckage near the Woodland Station in suburban Newton.
Pesaturo says the two-car train she was operating slammed into the back of another two-car train approaching the station.
One passenger was flown to a Boston hospital, and the other injured commuters were taken to nearby Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
Spokesman Brian O'Dea says the hospital had eight train-wreck patients, including two who walked in, none with serious injuries.
The National Transportation Safety Board is sending a team of seven investigators to the site to probe the crash. A report is expected to be released in 18 months.
