Bodies of 2 Missing Soldiers are Found in Iraq

The worst fears of a Lawrence man whose soldier son has been missing in Iraq for over a year are realized.

Andy Jimenez says military officials told him that the remains of his son, Sergeant Alex Jimenez, have been recovered.

Alex Jimenez and Byron Fouty, of Waterford, Mich., were kidnapped in May 2007 in an ambush.

Andy Jimenez tells The Associated Press through a translator that the news "shattered all hope'' the family had to "see Alex walk home on his own.''

Fouty's stepfather, Gordon Dibler, said military officials also came to his home yesterday to break the news. Dibler said he's still in shock.

The soldiers' families have become friends over the past year.

The Pentagon had made no official announcement. It usually waits 24 hours after families are notified before making any public announcements.
