Not So Golden Years, Part 2: Making Ends Meet

The retired years are supposed to be golden ones, but the economic crisis has many retirees facing difficult choices.

On Tuesday, we heard from two Massachusetts couples living on fixed incomes — losing money on their investments, with less time to make it up than working Americans. One retiree we spoke with is considering going back to work.

Now we hear from seniors who feel economic pain more immediately. They're having trouble just making ends meet.

WBUR's Bob Oakes visited the state-sponsored Senior Benefits Expo in Worcester, the last in a series of eight held around Massachusetts to inform elderly residents of the services and benefits available to them.

Produced by WBUR's Sarah Bush.

This program aired on October 15, 2008. The audio for this program is not available.
