Study: Headphones Pose Danger To Heart Devices

This article is more than 14 years old.

A new study led by a cardiologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center finds the magnets in headphones are so strong, they could prevent implanted defibrillators from delivering their life-saving shocks.

Doctor William Maisel found magnets would interfere with heart devices, if they're in close proximity.

Results of the study were presented at this weekend's American Heart Association meeting in New Orleans.

This program aired on November 10, 2008. The audio for this program is not available.
