School's Out For Winter

The snow has ended, but deep cold has set in.

Up to a foot or more of snow fell from yesterday's storm in some parts of the state, on top of accumulations from Friday.

Freezing temperatures overnight mean snowbanks and slush are now frozen.

In central Massachusetts, about 4,000 Massachusetts homes and businesses are still dealing with power outages that began with an ice storm nearly 11 days ago.

Fearing dangerous icy conditions on the road today, Mayor Thomas Menino has called off school in Boston until the holiday vacation ends on January 5th.

Officials say opening schools for one day tomorrow would be a waste of city resources.

The mayor is urging residents planning to leave their homes to use public transportation.
