Analysis: What's Next, After Speaker's Resignation

After four years as House speaker, and 30 years as the state representative from Boston's North End, Salvatore DiMasi is resigning, effective Tuesday at 5 p.m. DiMasi, like several house speakers before him, is leaving amid a cloud of controversy.

In recent months, DiMasi has been dogged by ethics questions surrounding his friendship with Richard Vitale, who has been indicted on charges he improperly lobbied the legislature, and DiMasi himself, on behalf of the state's ticket brokers.

WBUR's Bob Oakes spoke with State House News Service editor Craig Sandler to discuss what comes next on Beacon Hill.

This program aired on January 26, 2009. The audio for this program is not available.
