May Day
May Day, the annual celebration of springtime, is this Saturday. Many events around town continue into Sunday. Here are a few:
- Wake Up The Earth at the Southwest Corridor Park in Jamaica Plain, including a parade, food, crafts and performances by the Bread and Puppet Theater. Download the event flyer (PDF) for more information.
- Westborough Spring Festival at Minute Man Park and Westborough High, featuring a 5K road race, pancake breakfast, hot air balloon rides and more.
- The Harvard Square May Fair will have a "moving festival" parade of artists, hot air balloon rides, music and more.
- Protomagia (Greek May Day), featuring the Panayotis League performing traditional Greek music, and the Metropolis of Boston Youth Dance Group as well as plenty of Greek fare.
- Turners Falls May Day on Sunday will have a real Maypole in celebration of the holiday.
- Hayes Park May Day celebration includes dance performances among the park's blooming tulips.
- Rites of Spring, presented by Johara and Snake Dance Theater, featuring belly dancing performances and a Maypole dance.
136th Kentucky Derby
The 136th Kentucky Derby is this weekend, and Bostonians will be breaking out their best hats and sipping mint juleps in honor of the "best two minutes in sports."

- West End Johnnie's is hosting "best hat, best dressed" contests and giving away prizes for winning bets.
- The Sandra K. Russell Derby Day Benefit at the Liberty Hotel raises money to support those living with mitochondrial disease.
- The Kentucky Derby Party to benefit the Friday Night Supper Program will take place at the Globe Bar and Café.

Featuring samples from 13 immigrant-owned restaurants in Somerville, the Welcome Project-sponsored evening also includes music, dancing and locally-produced art.
Friends of the Malden Library Wine and Chocolate Tasting

Join the Malden Public Library for wine, food from local restaurants and a chocolate buffet, set in the library's art gallery.
