With the campaign behind him, Gov. Deval Patrick has selected a new leader for the state's highest court. He's nominating Justice Roderick Ireland to be the next chief justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. If approved, Ireland would succeed retiring Chief Justice Margaret Marshall and become the first African-American to hold the high seat.

To speak about the nomination, WBUR was joined Thursday by former Massachusetts Supreme Court Justice John Greaney, who served on the court with Ireland for 11 years.

This program aired on November 4, 2010.
