Mass. Legislators Reach Budget Agreement

Beacon Hill negotiators on Thursday afternoon offered few details of the final 2012 state budget that will get up-and-down votes Friday in both the House and Senate.

The lawmakers who worked out the compromise acknowledged that the issue of municipal worker insurance rules was a tough one to resolve.

The legislators announced their budget agreement Thursday, just one day before the fiscal year begins.

Once the budget is filed, Gov. Deval Patrick has 10 days to sign it into law and make any line-item vetoes.

Patrick has already signed a 10-day stopgap budget to keep crucial state operations continuing until the new spending plan is in place.
