Verizon Files For Injunction Against Striking Workers

Verizon hopes a Massachusetts judge will grant an injunction Friday to prevent picketers from physically blocking employees who are not striking from going into work.

Company spokesman Phil Santoro said managers have had difficulty getting through picket lines since 6,000 workers in Massachusetts went on strike Sunday.

He said one case of a Springfield worker is an example:

“Once he got clearance from the police to drive in, he inched his way into the garage but picketers would barely move,” Santoro said. “One of the picketers jumped in front of the truck and pretended to be hit and fell to the ground.”

A union spokesman said at least two picketers have been hit by vehicles, which he said shows that managers and temporary workers are being aggressive towards picketers.
