Mass. House Leaders To Hold Unusual Democratic Caucus

Massachusetts House Speaker Robert DeLeo has scheduled an unusual Democratic caucus.

A spokesman for DeLeo declined to comment on reason for the caucus, scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the State House. An email sent to lawmakers also gave no indication about what would be discussed at the closed-door meeting.

Caucuses are often held before the House debates major pieces of legislation, but the House is not in formal session.

Caucuses are also held to discuss House business, including potential changes in leadership positions.

In January, DeLeo removed Rep. Charles Murphy of Burlington as chairman of the budget-setting Ways and Means Committee, assigning him to be majority whip after Murphy courted fellow Democrats in case DeLeo left, angering the speaker.

An aide to Murphy said she did not know what Tuesday's caucus was about.
