Members of the media get their first glimpse of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s $180 million expansion and preservation project Wednesday. It opens to the public a week from Thursday.

The new building, designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, features a cutting-edge concert hall, a much bigger café and gift shop. It also features a brand new greenhouse, to the joy of the museum's chief horticulturalist Stan Kosak, who tends to the Gardner's lush courtyard.

You can hear his excitement in this sound piece.

This program aired on January 11, 2012.
