A steady rain fell and a stiff breeze blew at the private committal service for Army Spc. Keith Benson here on Friday.

Dozens of his friends and relatives huddled under umbrellas as they said their final farewells, as an honor guard held the American flag over Benson's casket.

The service was punctuated by a 21-gun salute and the faint strains of a bugler playing "Taps" in the distance.

The 27-year-old Norwood soldier died Jan. 18 while serving as a medic in Afghanistan. The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
