Record Warmth In Mass., Breaks 80 In Some Areas

The mild March weather continued across Massachusetts Monday, with temperatures in the low 80s in some inland areas and 70s across most of the state.

The National Weather Service reported that Fitchburg reached 81 degrees Monday, and 80 degrees was reported in Norwood, Taunton and North Adams. Widespread readings in the upper 70s were reported in inland areas.

Worcester set a record with 77, breaking a record of 71 in 1894. Boston had a record 74 degrees, topping 72 degrees in 1903. A cooling sea breeze later dropped Boston to the mid-50s.

Above-average afternoon temperatures are expected through Thursday, with readings in the 80s, perhaps to 90.
