Mass. Home Sales Up 33 Percent

Massachusetts home sales rose 33 percent in February compared to the same time last year, according to real estate tracking firm The Warren Group.

Group CEO Timothy Warren says with sales up 16 percent so far in 2012, there's good reason to be optimistic.

"The housing market is starting to perk up a bit," he said, "particularly in the areas around Greater Boston. The February number is the highest we've seen in any February in the last five years."

Median home prices did dip about 4 percent, according to the report, dropping to $250,000 from $260,250 last year. Warren says prices usually decline as the market begins to improve.
