2 Troopers Assaulted During Traffic Stop

State police say two troopers were assaulted and injured by two suspects during a traffic stop in Andover.

Spokesman David Procopio says the troopers stopped the vehicle around 9 p.m. Friday on Route 93 after determining that the operator's license was suspended. He says the suspects, men ages 20 and 22, were also transporting fireworks and in possession of narcotics when they were stopped.

Procopio says one trooper suffered an eye injury during the assault and the other suffered a shoulder injury. Both were treated and released from Lawrence General Hospital.

Procopio says both suspects were taken into custody. They are charged with resisting arrest, assault on police officers, possession of drugs and illegal possession of fireworks. Their identities haven't been released.
