Moulton Opts Against 6th District Run

This article is more than 10 years old.

Former U.S. Marine Seth Moulton is staying out of the congressional race between Democratic Rep. John Tierney and Republican challenger Richard Tisei.

Moulton came back to Massachusetts nine days ago to figure out whether he could attract enough support to mount an effective race as an independent against Tierney and Tisei. He decided he could not.

"The logistics of putting together a campaign in such a short timeline, with only three months to go in the race, were just unrealistic," Moulton said.

Moulton served four tours of duty in Iraq in the Marines. He grew up in Marblehead, attended Harvard University as an undergraduate, then earned degrees at the Harvard Business School and the Kennedy School of Government.

He lives in Texas now but says he'll move back to Massachusetts because he wants to run in the future.
