Body Found In Rubble Of Uxbridge Blaze

A body has been found in the rubble of an Uxbridge apartment building destroyed by fire.

Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said the body was found late Tuesday morning.

A 45-year-old woman and her 6-year-old daughter were unaccounted for after the four-alarm blaze that was reported at about 11 p.m. Monday in an old farm house that had been subdivided into five units. Early did not say whether the body found was an adult or a child.

Neighbors told firefighters the woman and her daughter were seen earlier Monday, but were unaccounted for after the fire. The woman's vehicle was still in the driveway.

State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan said Tuesday officials are conducting a "detailed search" of the rubble.

There was no immediate word on the fire's cause.
