Mobster James 'Whitey' Bulger Hospitalized

Reputed Boston mobster James "Whitey" Bulger remains hospitalized Monday morning.

Law enforcement sources tell WBUR the 83-year-old was taken to Boston Medical Center early Sunday after complaining of chest pains and is being treated for a "heart-related problem."

Bulger is known to have a heart condition but sources say he has not been taking his medication and complained that his heart was "racing."  Bulger was briefly hospitalized at the Boston Medical Center last December with similar symptoms.

When asked about Bulger on Sunday night, a spokesperson for the Boston Medical Center said "no one has been admitted under that name." When Bulger was taken to the BMC last December he was admitted under the name "Perry Mason."

Security around Bulger is tight, with law enforcement officers in his hospital room. Sources say he could be returned to Plymouth County jail as early as Monday afternoon.

Bulger, who was a fugitive from the law for 16 years until he was arrested in California in June 2011, is awaiting trial in connection with 19 murders.
