Healey Calls For More Inclusive Republican Party

This article is more than 6 years old.

Former Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey is calling on Massachusetts and national Republicans to be more inclusive.

Since the November election, Healey, the Republican National committeewoman for Massachusetts, has been a leading voice arguing for diversity within the party. At a forum at Harvard's Kennedy School on Thursday, Healey repeated that call.

"We need to bring together, right now as a party, bring together the libertarian-leaning conservatives from the Ron Paul movement, all those energetic young people who totally mastered social media," Healey said.

Healey also said the national party must bring in moderate, Northeast Republicans who have been discouraged by what she calls a glass ceiling in the party. She also said gay rights, contraception, abortion and the environment should not be viewed as peripheral.
