JFK Statue Open For Viewing For 50th Memorial

A statue of John F. Kennedy on the lawn of the Massachusetts State House will be open for public viewing on the 50th anniversary of Kennedy's assassination.

The statue has been largely off limits to the public since new security procedures that went into effect after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.

State leaders said the statue would be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, and again Monday during those hours.

Gov. Deval Patrick plans to lay a wreath at the statue on Friday.

It is one of several commemorations in the late president's home state to mark the anniversary of the assassination in Dallas.

Events are also planned at the Kennedy Library in Boston, and at the JFK Museum in Hyannis.
