Boston Cardinal Honors Dedicated Catholics

Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley is honoring dozens of people this weekend for their dedication to the life and mission of the Roman Catholic church.

The Archbishop of Boston is scheduled to present 93 people with Cheverus Award Medals during a ceremony set for Sunday at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

The recipients include mostly laypeople, as well as several deacons and members of religious orders.

The annual award was first presented in 2008 and is meant to honor people for their dedicated service to the church.

They are named for the first bishop of Boston, who led the church in the city from 1808 until 1824.

The oval medal bears a likeness of Cheverus on one side and his coat of arms on the other side.

This program aired on November 23, 2013. The audio for this program is not available.
