Salvation Army Giving Away Holiday Meals In Boston

The Salvation Army expects a record turnout when its officials and volunteers distribute 1,900 Thanksgiving food baskets to needy families in Boston.

The Salvation Army is distributing the baskets on Saturday afternoon at its facility in Boston's South End. The charitable organization says it has seen a 58 percent increase in Thanksgiving meals distributed since 2011, fueled in part by rising food and energy prices that have hit low-income families the hardest.

The Salvation Army says many families continue to feel the impact of the recent government shutdown and cuts in food stamps.

The Salvation Army says every family that lines up will get a Thanksgiving bundle with a complete holiday meal, including a turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie.
