Dookhan's Lawyer Discusses Hinton Drug Lab Case

Convicted former chemist Annie Dookhan has begun serving a three- to five-year prison sentence for falsifying drug tests and potentially compromising more than 10,000 criminal cases. A week ago, Dookhan pleaded guilty to 27 charges related to the evidence-tampering crisis at the now-closed Hinton drug lab in Jamaica Plain.

The state inspector general is investigating all operations at that lab to determine if the scandal ran beyond Dookhan, who state officials describe as a "rogue chemist" who routinely tested thousands more drug evidence samples than her colleagues.

Dookhan’s attorney, Nicholas Gordon, says Dookhan is currently in protective custody at the state women’s prison in Framingham, but will likely transition to the prison general population soon.

Dookhan has never spoken publicly about the scandal, but WBUR’s Deborah Becker spoke with Gordon at a coffeeshop in Framingham as he was going to meet with Dookhan.
