GOP Hopeful Launches Bid To Unseat Rep. Keating

This article is more than 6 years old.

A Republican hoping to unseat Democratic U.S. Rep. William Keating has kicked of his campaign with an endorsement from former GOP Sen. Scott Brown.

John Chapman said he's running to replace Keating in the 9th Congressional District in part to break the Democratic Party's stranglehold on Massachusetts politics, describing the all-Democratic congressional delegation as "marching like zombies in lockstep."

Chapman, who said his first job out of college was at the White House working as an aide for Ronald Reagan, ticked off a series of issues he hopes to highlight in the campaign.

Chapman faulted Keating for supporting the President Obama's 2010 federal health care law and said he would work to help improve the economy and add jobs.

Chapman also said the country has to toughen its immigration laws and fight against its declining influence around the world.
