One of the oldest charities in New England, the 142-year-old Worcester-based Lutheran Social Services, has decided its name is getting in the way of its mission.

In a few months, the formerly Lutheran organization will rebrand itself, changing its name to the Ascentria Care Alliance.

"In this day and age, when there's such limited resources, if people are looking for reasons not to fund and they say, 'Ah, this is too narrowly religious,' it just gets pushed out of the pile," Angela Bovill, the organization's president and CEO, told WBUR's Sharon Brody.

Listen to our entire conversation with Bovill above.

This segment aired on June 11, 2014.
