Arthur T. Demoulas Offers To Return To Market Basket Post

Market Basket officials have rejected the latest proposal from former CEO Arthur T. Demoulas.

Demoulas said Sunday night while his group negotiates a buyout of the supermarket chain, he could return to work to help restore order to the company, which has been hit by protests from workers loyal to him.

Meanwhile, Market Basket management is telling protesting workers to get back to work Monday or their jobs could be in jeopardy.

Many employees have mixed feelings about whether to return to work Monday, especially those that remain loyal to the former CEO.

Mike Meuse, one of those workers, said the new management is sending mixed messages by demanding employees return to work while withholding their pay.

"You want those people to come back, or at least you say you want those people to come back, and then you immediately retract it, so they're talking out of both sides of their mouth right now," Meuse said. "So I'm not sure what to believe."

The company is holding job fairs this week to potentially replace those who don't clock in Monday.
