State Police Col. Tim Alben had harsh words Thursday for the 29 protesters who blocked I-93 in Milton and Medford at the height of the morning commute.

"Come in and talk to the mayor about what your grievances are. Talk to someone about what those grievances are. But this kind of conduct is risking people's lives," Alben said during a press conference after the highway had been cleared Thursday morning.

The protesters say they blocked the interstate to get people's attention on the issue of police mistreatment of minorities.

WBUR's Fred Thys was at court in Somerville as some of the protesters were arraigned. Listen to his full report above.

This segment aired on January 15, 2015.
