City Council's Olympic Panel To Focus On IOC Reforms

With Boston in the hunt for the 2024 Olympics, a city council panel is looking into how reforms recently approved by the International Olympic Committee might impact the city's bid.

The council's special Olympic committee has scheduled a hearing next week that focuses on the IOC's "Olympic Agenda 2020" initiative, which includes changes to the bidding process and measures to reduce the costs of the games.

Among those expected to appear at Monday's hearing is Boston 2024 chief operating officer Erin Murphy and Angela Ruggerio, a former star defenseman on the U.S. women's hockey team and member of the IOC's Athletes' Commission.

The city council panel has three more public hearings scheduled for this year.

The IOC is expected to name a host city for the 2024 Summer Games in 2017.
