The Enterprise of Brockton reports thousands attended Thomas Kennedy's service Tuesday at St. Edith Stein Church in his hometown of Brockton. Kennedy died last week at 63.

The Rev. Dr. Seamus Finn said in a eulogy that Kennedy was a man of faith and a loyal and generous friend who treated his constituents as if they were members of his family.

Kennedy's casket was brought to the church on a horse-drawn carriage.

A 1971 accident left Kennedy a quadriplegic and required him to use a wheelchair the rest of his life. He served as a city councilor, state representative and Democratic senator over a 30-plus-year political career.
