Massachusetts Senate Sets Agenda For Early 2016

Bills to curb distracted driving, assure wage equity and overhaul the public records system are among those slated for debate in the Massachusetts Senate early in the new year.

Senate President Stan Rosenberg's office on Tuesday released a tentative schedule for the Senate's first three formal sessions of 2016.

Debate is set for Jan. 21 on legislation that would ban motorists from using hand-held cellphones while driving, except in emergencies. The House has given preliminary approval to a similar measure.

Legislation requiring men and women with similar levels of experience to be paid equally for the same work is on the agenda for Jan. 28.

On Feb. 4, the Senate will consider a House-passed bill requiring state agencies and municipalities to respond promptly when requested to turn over public records.
