Boston Could Require New Chain Businesses Get Extra Approval
Boston City Councilors are weighing a proposal that would require chain businesses with at least 11 outlets to get zoning board approval before opening in the city.
City Councilor Michelle Wu, sponsor of the proposal, says it's meant to help local businesses, and give residents a say about what happens in their neighborhoods.
Plans to open a Starbucks in the North End were recently scrapped following outrage from residents.
