A Boston Celtics player is facing extensive criminal charges after an alleged domestic violence incident in Brighton on Friday night, Boston police say.
Jabari Bird, 24, will be charged with assault, battery, strangulation and kidnapping, police say.
Bird was under police guard while being evaluated at a local hospital Saturday morning.
The victim was being treated at a separate hospital for injuries sustained in the alleged assault.
A statement from the Celtics says they are taking the allegations "very seriously."
"We are actively gathering information and will reserve further comment at this time," the team says.
Bird signed a two-year contract with the Celtics in July.
