Car Crashes Into Fall River Apartments, Killing One And Starting Fire

Officials say an elderly woman died after a car crashed into a Fall River apartment building, setting off a fire.

The woman, 72, of Fall River, has not yet been identified by authorities. Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said in a statement that police responded to calls at 9:40 a.m. that a car had crashed into the Four Winds Apartments at 5500 North Main St.

Quinn said responders at the scene arrived to find the elderly woman dead and a second person in the car with critical injuries; that person has since been rushed to the Rhode Island Hospital.

The fire department was able to extinguish the fire but the building was still damaged. Authorities said it appears that no residents were injured but fire officials are still clearing the scene.

The matter remains under investigation but Quinn said it does not appear to involve any foul play.
