Boston City Councilor Ciommo Won't Seek Re-Election

Boston City Councilor Mark Ciommo says he will not seek re-election this year.

Ciommo has represented Allston-Brighton, which is District 9, for nearly 12 years and chairs the council's Ways and Means Committee.

He said the decision came after "much reflection and discussion" with his family.

The news comes two weeks after fellow Councilor Josh Zakim, who represents neighborhoods including the Back Bay, announced he won't seek re-election either.

In January, District 5 Councilor Tim McCarthy said he won't run again as well.
