$23 Million Goes To State Agencies, Jewish Centers For Security

Several state agencies and Jewish organizations are sharing $23 million in federal grants to enhance security and prevent terror attacks.

The state Executive Office of Public Safety and Security says in a statement the money will go to several entities, including Massachusetts State Police, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Temple Israel of Boston, and Chabad Lubavitch Center of Greater Milford.

The statement says more than $19 million went to homeland security projects and about $3 million went to drones and emergency response teams. The remaining $600,000 will fund security efforts for religious institutions "at high risk of a terrorist attack."

Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito says this funding will help the state "prevent, mitigate, respond to and recover from potential threats and catastrophic natural events."
