Essex DA Investigating Ex-Boston Children's Theatre Artistic Director Accused Of 'Inappropriate Behavior'

Authorities are investigating allegations of "inappropriate behavior" against the former artistic director of Boston Children's Theatre, according to the Essex County district attorney's office.

The Boston Globe reported late Saturday that, according to the program’s board of directors, more than a dozen former students at the Boston Children's Theatre have made allegations against Burgess Clark.

Jim Solomon, the interim president of the theater's board, said he received an anonymous emailed complaint about Clark on Thursday — two days after Clark resigned from his long-held position.

Clark had been on a six-week medical leave before that, Solomon said. He contacted police after receiving the email.

The Essex County district attorney's office confirmed Sunday its investigators were notified by Beverly police of the accusations against Clark. Some of the theater's programs take place in the North Shore city, and Clark lives there.

Clark has not been charged with any crimes. No further details were available Sunday.
