Today's Weather: Break Of Sunshine, Seasonable Temps Before Boston Gets Blasted With Arctic Air

A storm passed east of New England overnight, bringing a few hours of snow. Depending on where you are in the region, you might have nothing on the ground this morning or enough to shovel — but the trend for today is back to sunshine and seasonably cool air. Behind this weather system, there's going to be a brief shot of Arctic air lasting about 24 hours.

The winds today will be strong and gusty, pulling in that cold air from Canada. Wind chills will be falling throughout the day in spite of the sunshine.

Thursday will be one of the rare days we've seen so far this winter that temperatures don't break freezing. I expect winds to diminish, so I'm not looking for any extreme wind chill readings.

The Arctic air retreats north Thursday night, and will set us up for a milder day Friday. There could be a bit of light precipitation Thursday night, as warmer air arrives. This is a small chance, and wouldn't amount to very much. I expect a blend of clouds and sunshine, with readings in the 40s.

Tropical air for this time of the year arrives Saturday, with readings getting into the 60s and the possibility of setting a record for warmth. There will also be a few showers, but the warmth will feel very much like spring — not that we've had a lot of cold weather. Nevertheless, it will be a welcome break for those of you that don't like winter and a sad day for those of you wishing it would be colder and snowier.

On Sunday, it remains milder for the first part of the day before a cold front puts an end to the abnormal warmth.
